This reality means that Christians need the ability to recognize and guard against misconceptions that devalue the body. As missionaries, a biblical defense of physical existence is critical as you disciple others who may believe the body, and what they do with it, is inconsequential.
Maintaining your physical health is a critical aspect of a mission work. If you are not fit enough to go overseas, some organizations may delay sending you until meeting certain health standards. If you crash diet to meet those levels but fail to rectify the underlying reasons for poor health, you will likely regain the weight on the field. Working through Understand Healthy before going overseas will equip you with the necessary tools to reach and maintain better health once you are sent out.
Knowledge of nutrition and exercise basics serve as helpful elements in a culture with new foods and limited ability to exercise. Being able to identify what foods to consume or largely avoid can ensure longevity on the field. Additionally, if safety concerns or a lack of gym access inhibit your ability to workout, knowing indoor exercises will protect your health, counteract stress, and guard against burnout. It is important missionaries are equipped to spiritually and physically thrive while on the mission field.
